Creativity is messy.

This is a page from my work in progress. And this is perhaps the fourth draft of the novel that I'm working on. You would think that by the fourth draft, there would be nothing to change. Yet, there you see it. It looks messy, doesn't it.

Yes, I've come to believe that creativity is messy--all kinds of creativity. From painting, to sculpture, to writing, to photography, to music, to dance, to sex, it's all messy. Yet for the people involved, it's the greatest thing in the world.

What do you think?

Yes, it's messy.

I just read your previous post. When your computer was down--yes. The Internet is a SERIOUS distraction. I don't want it to die on me, but I too would get something/more written without it. Hooray for you. It sounds like doing word count helped you. We do whatever works. You're getting closer to October and THE END. Hooray, and keep going!!!

I think you're right! And I think there's not a lot of things more awesome than looking at a paper filled with red markings, because it's visual proof that it's going to be THAT MUCH BETTER.

Good for you. Fourth draft and still tightening and polishing. The final work will make it all worthwhile. And you are so right. It's such a messy process. I belong to a good writer's group, and I write each critiquer's comments on my hard copy in different colors of ink. When my drafts get less colorful, I know the work is improving. :-)
