Download my books for free

Well, I finally did it. I've self-published Only The Lonely on Amazon.com. Now I have two books available: OTL and Battles and other stories. I'm offering them for free: Battles will be available on March 8th and Only The Lonely will be available on March 9th.

Unfortunately I had a formatting problem with OTL. It's certainly readable as is, but most paragraphs are not indented. I attempted to fix the problem, but I don't think it worked. I believe the problem lies in my Word program. Somehow in trying to set my book up for Smashwords awhile back, I set my program default to Normal, which seems to be causing problems on Amazon. I've been unable to unset it from Normal. If anyone can tell me how to fix the problem, I would be grateful.

BTW, I'm published under the penname R Patrick Hughes. See my slideshow for links to Amazon.com. Thank you.

I hope you download each book and give them a read and let me know what you think. A review (good or bad) on Amazon would be appreciated.

I hope to have a third book out by this summer.

Congrats! Best of luck, and I will for sure snuggle down with it and enjoy! Can't wait to experience the magic. *squeals of delight*

I enjoyed your short story collection very much.

As for the formatting, is there not a tech from amazon or smashwords that could help? My page is amazon.ca and there is a contact us button on the bottom that gets me in touch with a live person to help with self-publishing. Amazon wants your book to be perfect too so they should help.

Have fun!

Hi Richard,

I found this blog awhile back that mentions the fix for the indentation.

Curious as to why you aren't charging anything? You've put so much into this, you ought to get something back. Best of luck!

The formatting can be frustrating. I use YouTube videos and they are a big help. Google searches work too. Good luck with everything.

Congrats on your newest published work, Richard. I have no idea how to fix that indenting problem. I had the same trouble with formatting 3 short stories I published on Amazon, and it was maddening. I reworked the formatting in Word a good 15 times, trying to fix all the glitches and finally had to leave well enough alone. After that I paid a formatter to do it for me to put it on Smashwords. She only charged $10 and it was well worth the money! I'll never try to do it again. I'm just not competent enough!

I'm so looking forward to Only the Lonely. As for the indenting problem with Word. Word is kind of famous for messing up formatting when you go to publishing. Have you tried putting it in PDF and then publishing that? That worked for me.
