One day, when I was maybe 20 years old, I took my mother downtown. While she went shopping, I sat in the car, which was parked along a busy street in Jacksonville, Florida. While waiting for my mother to return, I read a novel. I guess I was pretty engrossed in it, because all of a sudden I heard sirens. I looked up and there were fire trucks parked between me and a house that was on fire. I couldn't believe my eyes. Had I woken up from a dream. Nope. It was real.
How about you? How engrossed have you gotten into a book?

You got pretty engrossed in the book you were reading, that you did not notice the fire. I too get engrossed while reading, but not to this extent.
Woah! I've never gotten that revolved into a book. I can never pay 100% attention to one thing. My mind jumps too much!
That must have been one really interesting book! Do you remember the name of the book?
I can get pretty engrossed. It just depends on what's going on.
I've spent too long at lunch, stayed up too late, even postponed some responsibilities at times, but your ability to focus obviously dwarfs mine!
Hi Richard .. no - I think it must be a female thing .. mind you some kids I know bury their heads for ever .. just know it wouldn't have been me.
Good story to be able to relate though .. cheers Hilary
Not sure if this is a testament to how good the book is or how addicted we can get. Lol.
Yes, I have called in sick to finish a book. Screams addict, eh?
I haven't been that engrossed! However, I love it when I can't get to sleep until I put it down. Now that's a good book.
The same happens to me Richard. I get out of this world when I read or write something. By the way, I just started Battles and other stories and I'd like to interview you on my blog. E-mail me and I will get back to you with some questions by e-mail.Thanks in advance.
Oh, definitely! There are days when I can't tear myself away from the pages until they're all gone! It's a great feeling.
I get so engrossed in a book that people have to touch me to get my attention. :-D
Ha! That is so funny. I tend to be deaf when I read. My kids have to yell at me a few times to get my attention, which is why I read at night when they are asleep. There's less motherly guilt that way. :)
Smiling. Enjoyed your post Richard. So, do you recall the name of that book? I've learnt not to read whilst cooking, that's all I will say on that subject, lol. I too get engrossed in books :-)
Ha-ha, that was amazing. I do get engrossed in books, but I don't think I could to that extent. It must have been one fabulous novel. Share the name: the rest of us writers out here need to see how to write such a compelling book! I'm still smiling.
